Mark your calendars for the 2014 Firestone 805 Criterium Weekend
May 9, 10, 11, 2014
May 9, 10, 11, 2014
DAY 1 Hancock Twilight
Day 2 Buellton Ave of Flags
Day 3 Lompoc Valley of Flowers
Welcome to the home of the 805 Criterium Weekend! We started with one race in 2012, The Firestone Walker Avenue of Flags Crit. In 2013 we grew to a two day event with addition of the Lompoc Valley of Flowers Crit. We’ve grown again in 2014 with the addition of the Hancock Twilight Crit on Friday. Our 805 Crit Weekend, isn’t small time either, as we’ll have over $35,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs May 9th, 10th and 11th!! That includes preems! This is just the start. Our Race Director has a long term plan to create a “SuperWeek type” of event here in California. Don’t be surprised to see us add a 4th day in 2015. We ask you, the racer, to support our efforts to build such a high quality event that it attracts racers from throughout the USA in the future, by making every effort to show up this year on Friday. Get your day off, set up the family for the weekend and bring them all to the beautiful wine country of the Central Coast to celebrate American Style Crit racing in awesome public venues and of course Mother’s Day!
The 805 Crit Weekend benefits the Lompoc Police Foundation and the Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society, two very worthy non-profit organizations that do valuable work in their communities. In addition to those charities the weekend is supported by members of The Santa Barbara Bicycle Club, Team One Way, The Village Dirtbags, The Dirt Club, SYVCC, Woody’s Butcher Block Masters, Tailwinds BC and Col Vento Cycling Club. We’re building great community events as well as a National Class Bike Race. There will be Firestone 805 Beer Garden’s, expo booths and food at all three races. At Saturday and Sunday there will be Free Kids Races as well, it is fun for the whole family. At the Lompoc Valley of Flowers race on Sunday, Mother’s Day, we will celebrate Mothers by giving the 1st 500 Moms a red rose!
This year not only will there be individual prize lists for each day of racing, but we will run the 805 Criterium Weekend as a Series with a point structure (top 10 point schedule of 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 each day, a mid race 5, 3, 1 bonus sprint on the last day only, tiebreaker is place on the last day) that will crown winners 5 deep in each Series Category. These Categories are identified in the schedule below. Racers can enter each day of racing, or enter the entire series. In order to be eligible for the Overall Series Prize List racers must compete in all 3 days of racing. We have a ton of great sponsors that help make this happen, so please support them when possible. Sunday’s Lompoc Valley of Flowers had been awarded the SCNCA State Elite Criterium Championships, and as such the event has been granted permission to allow Continental Pro Team Rider to race that day, however they will not be eligible for the SCNCA Title or Jersey, but will still be in the running for the event and Series Overall Prize lists.
This is going to be an outstanding and downright exciting weekend of very fast bicycle racing. We hope to see you there with your entire family and remember that this is only year 3! We have grand plans for the 805 Criterium Week!
